Uxbridge Underground Station Labyrinth/Maze

Uxbridge Underground Station
labyrinth/Maze
This afternoon I met Marta at the underground station in Uxbridge and while I was there I noticed one of london undergrounds labyrinth/maze.

If you're looking for it its quiet prominent on the wall near the ticket machines, if your exiting the station via the main exit they're on your left had side before the group of shops.

Its number 34 of 270 as I travel around the underground in the future I'll try to add photos of the others. But rest assured this site won't be dominated by them !

Breaking Bad

I don't think theres a single person I've spoken to who hasn't absolutely been hooked on this when they've taken the tame to watch it.

I first came to Breaking Bad about two years ago and like everyone else I thought it was simply a watershed in American television. Following a Science teacher who's been diagnosed with cancer and has a disabled son. This charts the transformation of someone who wants to provide for his family after he's died to a ruthless drug king pin who will stop at nothing to expand his empire. Its brilliant and could never be imitated the subtle character arch and all the events that turn him into the poster he becomes have to been watched. Go watch it !

The Final Cut, Pink Floyd

So today I went to pick up Marta from Uxbridge and on the way I popped into HMV and did some shopping.

My first purchase Pink Floyd's, The Final Cut. The last Pink Floyd album featuring Roger Walters while the themes are complete Floyd the fact it was produced in the early 80's does  reflect in the songs "Oh Maggie what have you done" has probably lost its meaning to most of todays record buyers.

With Walters taking the soul writing credit on the cusp of leaving the band years after this release it is dominated by his dark songs dealing with a lot of his issues that haunt him it must have be at times difficult to write with tacks like Post War Dream dealing with the loss of his father and Paranoid Eyes giving you a glimpse into the writer himself with raw uncut feeling its a mix bag as a Floyd its good and definitely worth buying but its not their best.

The best way to listen as with all of their albums in may mind is in a low lit room to try and get the emotions and thoughts that are wrapped up in this recording

The Age Of Stupid

The Age of Stupid Banner
Set in the future this drama-documentary looks at what went wrong and the steps we're taking now to destroy our planet. Pointing out the Signs that we should be noticing and are not in our consumer driven world.

This well constructed drama-documentary follows a few different threads interlaced with vinaigrettes on climate change and shows you the startling figures as it does so. A low cost air line in India thats about to launch selling flights for as little as one rupee and the changing face of Mont Blanc are the major vehicles used to show us the contrast in our world and how its slowly dying under the strain of more energy demands. If everyone on the plant consumed resources at the same rate of a U.S consumer we would need four plants and if population centres expand ant current rates we'll need the resources of six plants by 2040. This does make you think about the impact we're having on our planet and should be food for thought.

First Light, Geoffrey Wellum

First Light Front Cover
I wanted to take the time to re-vist a book I read last summer and share with you my thoughts on it.

First light details the career of Geoffrey Wellum in the RAF, joining straight from school in 1939 this book takes you right through from his signing up at the recruiting office and details his worries and concerns as he talked the pressure of basic training knowing he could be dropped from the course at any stage and on wards to squadron life and learning his trade from Battle of Britain aces. Slowly rising through the ranks of fighter command the book culminates with operation pedestal taking vital supplies to Malta where Geoffrey who has been in the fray for months reluctantly gets sent back Britain for much needed rest and relaxation as he's burnt out both physically and mentally after a prolonged time in front line combat.

For anyone who's interests include either history or aviation this book is a must and gives such valuable insight into every aspect of becoming a fighter command pilot at the beginning of the second world war. But more than that it charts the development of a school boy who goes from a summer in his school's first 11 to the next summer flying the most advanced fighter aircraft in the world in combat over England and France. I couldn't put this book down and by the time I got to the end I just wanted it to continue through out the whole book it felt like I was sitting on the authors shoulder watching the events unfold before me. Its simply the best book of its type I know of.

Amazon Prime Credit

If you're a member of Amazon prime I'm sure like me you love the next day delivery and on occasion same day delivery. But what happens if your not in a rush and you select no rush delivery through the check out ?

Well last week when I was in Poland I did just that, I wanted to order The Slider by T-rex but I didn't want it the next day as I wasn't in England to receive it. I thought it would be no different from the prime service.

To my great surprise I learned that because I'd selected the no rush service I received a £1 credit for movie or TV shows on instant video thats on rentals or purchases, books on kindle, MP3's or apps from the amazon market place.

So if your in no rush for your amazon delivery go through the check out select no rush delivery and gain £1 credit for something else

Ronnie O'Sullivan's American Hustle

Ronnie O'Sullivan's American Hustle
Although its been advertised a lot on the History channel today is the first time I've managed to catch up with this new series from the History Channel.

Well known in the U.K and the snooker world in general Ronnie takes his skills to the U.S where he's unheard of to try his hand at hustling pool and to do some travel reporting on the way.

Ronnie O'Sullivan Driving a NY Taxi
I have to be honest I was hoping that it wasn't going to be an hour of Ronnie shooting pool and I was pleasantly surprised. The producers work hard to show you the city concerned in this case New York and local sights and culture. In this episode Ronnie goes to the top of the Rockerfella Centre, Ellis Island and enjoys a chilly dog from a street vender. Of course theres pool and to that end its more of a documentary showing you different forms of the game and meeting some hustling legends and showing you the shots they've worked on all their lives.

Its a good pregame with lots of different content that comes at a good pace while Ronnie's never going to be a travel presenter the voice over gives you interesting facts about the city they're in and links all of their different activities together. If you like travel, pool or Ronnie O" you'll enjoy this light hearted program.
