Pink Floyd Animals Album Cover |
Pink Floyd's record deal with Harvest records EMI for unlimited studio time had expired in 1975, by this time Pink Floyd had grown to a massive band on the back of dark side of the moon and wish you were here so the decision was made to build their own studio in Islington north London. With the work taking place until spring 1976 it wasn't until then that work begun.
Based loosely on the book animal farm by George Orwell only as a critique of capitalism as a pose to Stalinism. and taking inspiration and as an answer to the attacks from the punk scene Johnny Rotten famously wearing an "I hate Pink Floyd' t-shirt for gigs and interviews. This album while retaining the Pink Floyd sound is more edgy than and darker than its two predecessors. following the concept that the sheep will win out over dogs in the end, it should really be listened to as a complete piece of work. Like other Floyd works it takes you on a journey from start to finish and if you let your mind drift its easy to get the picture and feeling thats incorporated inside.
I wouldn't say its my go to album of Pink Floyd and I truly believe that Dark Side Of the Moon is their greatest work but this is high along side and really worth listening too and adding to you collection but make it the third album you buy after Dark side of the moon and wish you were here. If you really want to get the feeling play it on a cold and stormy winters evening.
N.b Theres a great story that surrounds the album art work if you have five minutes hunt it down. I was tempted to plagiarise but others can write it better than I.
